Brow Lift
Eyebrow Surgery
A brow lift, or forehead lift, as it's commonly called is a popular plastic surgery procedure which help raise the eyebrows to a higher and more aesthetic position. Lateral hoods are also improved in the process. Lateral hoods are the droopy flaps of skin which hang over the outside corner of your eyes. Plastic surgery of the forehead area will also help soften the horizontal forehead lines and wrinkles and also the scowl lines which are between the eyebrows. When the scowl lines are stress(from aging), they can make us look tired, fatigued and older than we really are.
What will a brow lift NOT improve? A brow lift will not improve puffy eyelids, puffy eyes or crows feet around the eyes. With a brow lift there may be some minor scarring. The top of the head or in front of the hairline may suffer some minor scarring, depending on the technique and skill used during surgery. A brow lift may be performed in several different ways. There are basically three commonly used techniques. Your surgeon will suggest one of the three main techniques used. If he decides to go with a totally radical option, then your best bet is to find another doctor that will not be experimenting with your face.
The three techniques used are a coronal lift, subcutaneous lift and an endoscopic lift. A coronal brow lift involves making an incision from ear to ear at the top of your head. Your surgeon can alter the muscles through this incision. Muscles manipulated are the frontalis, procerus and corrugators. These are the muscles that cause forehead wrinkling and scowling in the first place.

Is a brow lift right for me ?
Your plastic surgeon will actually remove a 1-2 cm strip of your scalp and sew the remaining scalp together into place. While this may sound incredibly grotesque, it is the oldest method of the forehead lift. It is also the most reliable technique used in brow lift surgery. The top of your head will be numb for about 6 months following surgery. So basically, you will be without any sensation in your forehead area for about 6 months! This technique also raises your natural hairline, which can be a problem for individuals with a naturally high hairline or who wear their hair combed back or in a ponytail.

The biggest advantage of this technique is that the results are very long lasting and you will not have to repeat this surgery as you age. The scars are normally concealed behind the hairline. The only way the scars will show is if you are a man with a naturally receding and thinning hairline. This can also be the case for women, but only in rare cases.

What sort of results can I expect with my brow lift ?
Below are some examples of peoples before and after pictures who have had a brow lift.
Everyone will be able to achieve different results whether it be a subtle change or a more dramatic one that they are looking for.
The endoscopic brow lift involves four to six incisions behind your hairline. They are usually one inch thick. Though the incisions, your plastic surgeon will insert an endoscope, which is basically a surgical instrument with a camera attached to it. This will allow him to see under your skin without making huge incisions along the top of your head for successful results. Through these incisions, your plastic surgeon will be able to perform everything as with a coronal lift, but with a few exceptions.
First of all, your plastic surgeon will be able to weaken the scowl-causing muscles between your brows and directly alter the muscle that is responsible for horizontal wrinkles. Additionally, your plastic surgeon can lift your forehead, without removing excess scalp area. He will merely shift it upward and backwards on your skull. To secure this position, your plastic surgeon may drill a small hole into your skull and place tiny screws into place. These screws can be removed later on or in some cases, be absorbed by your body.Subcutaneous brow lifts are the least performed type of brow lift surgery out of the three main choices. With this technique, your plastic surgeon will make an incision at the top of your forehead, where your natural hairline begins. The exact same muscle alterations that are performed through a coronal brow lift can also be done through this procedure. Excess skin can also be easily removed. Since the actual incision is in the front of the hairline, your natural hairline will not be altered or moved up higher, unlike the two other techniques.
